Re-evaluating my diet through fasting

What brings me to fast?

To be honest, 'I've been interested in fasting for some time’.

There were two reasons which made me want to try fasting.

Firstly, I saw a post on FB by my friend in which she looked twenty years younger as a result of fasting during the twenty days.

Secondly, I was hospitalized for a week in April. After I left hospital my stomach hurt from time to time. This made me want to improve my health.

The way to fast

As you may know there are so many ways to fast.

The process of fasting I did was like this.

‘The preparatory period’-‘Actual fasting’-‘The recovery period’, each period lasted three days, the total period was 9 days.

A friend of mine who is an expert in fasting supported me in the process.

I am going to explain what I did in each period.

In ’The preparatory period’, I reduced the amount of food I ate and I only ate Japanese food.

In ’Actual fasting’ for three days, I didn’t eat any solid food at all, I only drank enzyme syrup and liquid such as water or non caffeine drinks.

In ‘The recovery period’, I ate brown rice, vegetables, and fruits.

Basically I am a big fan of coffee and sugary stuff, and the same friend( who is EVIL!!) suggested that I didn’t take in any sugary food and caffeine for an extra three days before the preparatory period and after the recovery period.

That means I cut them off for 15 days.

How and what I felt during the process...

I usually don’t eat breakfast, I just drink a small amount of different type of enzyme drink instead, and water.

To be honest, it’s not hard for me not to eat any food.

But the hardest time was life without caffeine and sugary food.

In addition, I didn’t take sugary food from the beginning.

That meant I couldn’t relax with a cake and coffee when I took a break.

The second hardest thing was my ‘Hunger’ in the recovery period.

Vegetables and Liquid didn’t fill my stomach enough.

Also, my brain thought that I could eat food after ‘Actual fasting’ and kept talking to me ‘I wanna eat more!!’.

Now I finished ‘Recovery period’ and can eat beans, it helps satisfy my stomach.

This tough existence finally will finish after three days and I am able to have fish, meat, eggs, caffeine and sugar again.

I drink decaffeinated coffee now as well.

It makes me happy.

Oh my gosh...the realization was ...

The realization through the fasting was “It’s not so important to eat so much!"

At least I could get the energy and nutrition from the enzyme syrup.

‘Eating food’ was just for fun mainly for me.

Because I do love eating, tasting food makes me so happy, and sometimes I can’t stop it even if my body didn’t want to take the food in.

I realized that I wanted to taste them for fun OR I might want to feel satisfaction because I feel something lacking in my mind. And many people who can’t stop eating might have similar feeling, I think.

In fact, the same friend said that originally human beings used to hunt animals in ancient times.

They couldn’t eat any food for about a year at that time and our body system adapted to survive.

Actually I have been struggling with intense sleepness after having a big lunch, and was disappointed in myself because I couldn’t do anything I wanted to do.

I quit eating so much and I stopped to eat when my stomach was about 60% full.

I have been feeling very comfortable over the last few weeks.

I am going to finish after two days, that means that I can eat anything I want basically, I am thinking what food I should take in after then.

I must say that I enjoy baking cakes and spending time at a cafe by myself having coffee and desserts.

But I know that Japanese food which is healthy, also chewing well and taking in the right amount of food makes my body happy.

It might be necessary to take in food moderately while I listen to my voice from deep down every time I eat.
